Harness your passion for improving the lives of women in North Dakota. Consider running for the North Dakota Women’s Network (NDWN) board of directors. The NDWN board recently updated the bylaws, creating two new seats on the board, one for a director (three-year term) and one for a junior director (one-year term).
 
Our board is composed of individuals who bring diverse professional, personal and cultural experiences from across the state. We encourage anyone passionate about the cause to actively seek a seat. Directors will be elected by a online vote of the membership prior to the ND Women’s Network Annual Meeting on October 8 in Bismarck.
 
This year, NDWN Chair Jynette Larshus and NDWN Treasurer Val Barbie are each seeking re-election for three-year terms on the board. In additions we have five open positions:
Two (2) three-year term positions. (at least one must be filled)
Two (2) one-year term positions to fill vacant seats
One (1) one-year term for a newly created junior director (age 16-17)
  
Together we will challenge the status quo -- and each other -- with new ideas and new experiences as we advocate for women through education, advocacy and public activism.

The North Dakota Women’s Network strongly opposes the decision of the Supreme Court of the United States to overturn the landmark decision in Roe v. Wade. For half a century, women and families have relied upon the protection of their medical privacy from government interference. The decision of the Court to revoke this protection of privacy is devastating, as it will severely harm access to reproductive health care for many Americans’. It is also reasonable to expect that this decision will damage health privacy more broadly, undermining much more than just access to reproductive health care. We anticipate that, over time, this decision may further erode privacy in ways that impact us all.

The Court’s decision also disproportionately impacts North Dakota women and families, because the North Dakota legislature has passed laws that will deny reproductive medical privacy and healthcare access since Roe is overturned. As a result, only North Dakotans with adequate resources will be able to travel out-of-state to receive this important healthcare. The decision to overturn Roe, coupled with North Dakota’s punitive and privacy-violating policies, means that many lower- and middle-income North Dakotans who are unable to engage in costly travel will not be able to receive access to the reproductive health care that they need.

On Monday, May 2nd, Politico published a leaked draft Supreme Court majority opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that explicitly overturns Roe v. Wade. This is an unprecedented leak from the court that, if true, would reverse nearly 50 years of precedent and explicitly end federal constitutional protections for abortion. 26 states (including North Dakota) could move quickly to ban abortion, meaning millions of people might live without local access to abortion. The people in your community and across the country deserve the power and freedom to make their own personal reproductive health care decisions.

It is necessary to act now, all across the country, not only to demonstrate that people support abortion access but to show that we won’t back down. We are gathering this Saturday to show that we are going to show up, stand up, and speak up for control over our own bodies and prepare for what is on the horizon.

Styled by a Child is an innovative and engaging fundraiser for the North Dakota Women’s Network (NDWN).
 
During the week of May 2-6, 2022, adults will hand over all styling decisions to young people in their life. The adult will post the styles online and wear these styles everywhere for that day. Teams set a fundraising goal and ask friends and family to donate for the five days of styling.
​ 
We will end the week with a fashion show where teams will show off their favorite look from the week or a special runway look. We are excited to announce two very special guests for this year’s Styled by a Child Fashion show. Senator Heidi Heitkamp will be joining us for the social, along with Season 6 Voice contestant Kat Perkins. Kat will be signing autographs during the social and will emcee the fashion show portion of the event.
