Week Fourteen North Dakota Legislative Assembly UpdateLegislative Update – Week 14
Click here for the updated tracking grid. The legislature is moving towards the end. The final wrangling over funding is the primary focus. Many conference committees are working out differences between the House and the Senate. The Compassionate Care for Rape Victims Bill, SB 2284, has been well received throughout legislative session as there is strong recognition that Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) are vital services for rape victims. Unfortunately, the funds have not been easily supported. In fact, the House Appropriations committee zeroed out all funding. We’ll be watching closely and pushing to get the funds returned to the bill. Because of many scheduling conflicts over the next few weeks, we won’t be hosting videoconference updates. But there are many opportunities to keep engaged. Solidarity Saturdays will be held Saturday, April 11th is Minot and Saturday, April 18th in Bismarck, Fargo, and Grand Forks. Information for locations on the 18th will come next week. Below is Minot’s information. Minot will be meeting to plan for upcoming city and state action. Please join us in planning for social activism concerning: labor rights, trafficking in ND, and protection from discrimination for all people -- to name just a few issues. Modeled on Moral Mondays in North Carolina. Saturday, April 11th 1 p.m. Broadway Bean and Bagel: 1701 South Broadway in Minot Show support for Equality by reserving a flag on the Capitol Lawn. Inspired by the We Will Remember Your Vote project of 2013, the mission of this project is to place a small flag in the NW corner of the ND State Capitol grounds for each individual who wishes to voice opposition to the actions of the ND State Legislature on SB2279 and show support for equal rights for LGBT citizens in ND. This event will be a nonviolent, powerful display of our collective voice and an easy, affordable way for ALL to participate. This amazing event will run from April 20-24, 2015.
